Regional Business Relationships as a Guarantee for Crisis-Resistant Development

Regional Business Ties for Crisis-Resilient Growth

Our present time is characterized by ongoing globalization, the ubiquitous availability of vast quantities of data and products, and constant worldwide communication. German medium-sized businesses are, in principle, open to these developments but strive to preserve some of the competitive advantages of earlier times.

Maintaining locally functioning supply chains has regained importance in recent years, particularly when many components and raw materials from the Far East were no longer readily available. During this period, companies that maintained strong regional relationships were especially able to gain market share. One such example is Lore Spickermann GmbH & Co. KG from Bottrop-Kirchhellen, which has for many years sourced its wire and polyurethane screens—used for sieving gravel, sand, and topsoil in screening towers and mobile screening plants—from Dorsten, located just about 10 km away, specifically from the Dorstener Drahtwerke Group.

Since 1953, Lore Spickermann (LS) has been supplying customers from road construction, pipeline and cable construction, civil engineering, landfill operations, and private sectors with high-quality sand, gravel, and soil products. To produce these, durable metal and plastic screens for various types of screening machines are regularly required. Since the company was taken over by the Husmann family, these have been procured from Curt Ebert Siebtechnik (CES), a subsidiary of Dorstener Drahtwerke.

“We have known CES through its parent company, Dorstener Drahtwerke – located just 10 km away as the crow flies. When we took over operations at LS in 2014, it was clear to us that we wanted to source locally. We value the fast service and high quality of the screens, which significantly improve the operating times of our plants,” explains Luka Husmann, Plant Manager at Lore Spickermann, on the company’s regional purchasing strategy.

CES itself is much older than its neighboring customers and began supplying the coal mines of the Ruhr area with high-quality wire screens as early as 1920. Many years later, the company was also involved in the decommissioning of these mines and produces screening products for the preparation of materials that Lore Spickermann has been supplying since 2021 for the filling of the Ruhr area’s last hard coal mine, Prosper-Haniel in Bottrop.

Paul Tüshaus, Managing Director of CES, emphasizes the importance of long-term regional business relationships for the company’s own development: “Lore was one of the first customers for our in-house manufactured polyurethane screens. This application provided us with valuable insights, allowing us to continuously improve our product quality—a classic win-win situation.”

Since CES added various polyurethane screens to its product portfolio in 2020, customer demand from around the world has been steadily increasing. Yet even against this backdrop, Tüshaus promises that the company in Dorsten will continue to prioritize and maintain its regional customer relationships.
